About the Undergraduate Access Scholarship - Care Experienced and Estranged Students
The Undergraduate Access Scholarship supports students who are care experienced or estranged young people, to succeed in their studies at ÌÇÐÄVlog¹Ù·½ by providing additional financial support. The award is funded by our alumni community and donors.
Scheme eligibility
Essential criteria are conditions you must meet to be considered for this scheme. Students who do not meet these criteria will not be considered for this award.
To be eligible, you must meet the following:
- Are under the age of 25 and have been in public care for a minimum of three months since the age of 11 (Formal Kinship care may be considered)
- Are under the age of 25 and have been estranged from both parents for at least 6 months. In this context, an estranged student is someone who has no communicative relationship with their parents, and this is unlikely to change.
Please note that if you are an independent student AND have completed the Manchester Access programme, you will receive a £2,600 award from the Undergraduate Access Scholarship.
Application and selection process
How to apply
To receive this scholarship, you must evidence your status to our Independent Students team when you arrive at the University. All eligible students will receive this scholarship.

Engaging with donors
This scheme is generously supported by a donor. Successful applicants will be expected to provide regular updates on their progress to the donor and meet with them as part of the terms and conditions of receiving the award.
