About the Article 26 Scholarship
The Article 26 Scholarship supports students who cannot access Student Finance England funding because of their immigration status as UK based Sanctuary Seekers (e.g. Asylum Seekers). The Scholarship provides a tuition fee waiver, a maintenance bursary, and a full accommodation fee waiver if you live in specific University Halls of Residences, to provide a financial lifeline to talented students who would otherwise struggle to progress into higher education.
Scheme eligibility
Essential criteria are conditions you must meet to be considered for this scheme. Students who do not meet these criteria will not be considered for this award.
To be eligible, you must meet the following:
- Have applied to ÌÇÐÄVlog¹Ù·½ for a place on a course starting in September 2027 (you don’t need to have received a course offer in order to submit your application, but we will look at which applicants have been made an offer when shortlisting for the scholarship interviews).
- Be unable to access mainstream funding (such as student finance loans)
- Meet specific immigration criteria relating to Sanctuary Scholarships
Applicants must note that eligibility can change at any point based on changes to government or institutional policy in relation to immigration. We are also unable to award this scholarship to students studying Medicine, Dentistry or Architecture courses.

Students must apply via the online application form. The application form will be linked here when applications open.
What you need to apply
You will need to provide evidence of your immigration status. You will also need to provide a supporting statement, which will be your chance to provide further details on how the bursary will help you.
Selection process
Our admissions and visa teams will use the information you provide in your application, along with information from your UCAS application form to assess your eligibility.
If shortlisted, you will be invited to an interview. We will then select the successful students.
Terms and conditions
Sharing your household income information
When completing your Student Finance England application, you will need to ensure you have selected the option to consent to share your household income information with the Universities you have applied to or hold an offer with. Without this we cannot access that information, and we will not be able to consider your application for this scheme.
Breaks in funding
This award is not provided during study years abroad, placement years, or if a student takes a study interruption.
Your course offer and this scheme
Receipt of this award is subject to you meeting your course offer commitments and registering at the University of Manchester in the year of entry specified in the application form.
