About the Beatrice Shilling Scholarship
The Beatrice Shilling Scholarship is a scholarship for UK fee-paying students, who are women and hold an offer to study an undergraduate engineering course at the University of Manchester.
Students in receipt of this Scholarship will become part of our valued Shilling community at Manchester. You'll have access to an academic mentor, who is a friendly face within the Faculty that you can go to for academic advice and pastoral support. Your mentor can support you with career development opportunities as well as helping you to build networks with peers and other female engineers.
Scheme eligibility
Essential criteria are conditions you must meet to be considered for this scheme. Students who do not meet these criteria will not be considered for this award.
To be eligible, you must meet the following:
- Be a woman (inclusive of trans women) / be assigned female at birth (such as AFAB non-binary);
- Have an offer of studying an undergraduate engineering course at ÌÇÐÄVlog¹Ù·½
- Have been assessed for fee status as a 'home' student;
- Have chosen Manchester as your firm choice by the June UCAS deadline;
- Can commit to contributing to outreach and recruitment activities, especially encouraging more women to study engineering;
- Achieve a minimum of 60% average performance during each year of study.

Priority criteria is additional information about you that will be used to make our final selection decisions.
Priority will be given to students who:
Priority will be given to the highest performing applicants, or those with the highest potential to attain, based on their UCAS application, within each engineering discipline (at least 2 students per discipline).

The University will automatically assess all eligible applicants and assign the Scholarship based on academic merit.

Breaks in funding
This award is not provided during study years abroad, placement years, or if a student takes a study interruption.

Receipt of this award is subject to you meeting your course offer commitments and registering at the University of Manchester in the year of entry specified in the application form.
